Description

Linum trigynum is an annual herbaceous species which ranges in height from 10 to 50 cm and has actinomorphic yellow flowers with fivefold symmetry. It is self-compatible and homostylous with anthers and stigmas at the same level in the flower (Gutiérrez-Valencia et al. 2024). The native distribution of L. trigynum ranges from the Mediterranean Basin into western Asia.

A recent genomic study has shown that L. trigynum is a short homostyle that primarily reproduces through self-fertilization in natural populations (Gutiérrez-Valencia et al. 2024). L. trigynum has lower genetic diversity and exhibits signatures of relaxed purifying and positive selection across its genome, compared to the related distylous species L. tenue (Gutiérrez-Valencia et al. 2024).
